Claire's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Produce No Waste for a Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Community and Connection
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 5 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Health and Well-Being
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Health and Well-Being
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 15 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 4 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 15 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Community and Connection
Join a Group
Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did checking in with someone strengthen your relationship or provide support? How did it feel to reach out and connect?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 3:22 PMIt was nice to get replies from various people that I haven't been in contact with for a while, and to reestablish the connection that we had/ our friendships. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 3:20 PMMy friends and I swap clothes all the time. We have very similar styles and it helps us save money.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did joining a group make you feel more connected or supported? Why do you think belonging to a group is important?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 3:19 PMI felt very supported by everybody in my dance community because they are so accepting and open to everybody. I think it is important because it gives somebody a sense of belonging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 3:04 PMI never take anything from nature unless it is in a highly human populated area/industrial area ( ex: PB seashells). People might not follow this rule because they don't think it will have an effect and they put their joy of receiving a beautiful natural thing as a priority over preserving nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 2:58 PMLeave what you find, it can help preserve the environment because you're not disturbing how it might run its course. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat surprised you most about the products you use in your home?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 2:48 PMMany period product companies have some lead and arsenic in them, even though there are very low levels of it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now? What was the most challenging part of reducing refined sugar, and how did you overcome it?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 2:44 PMI've been doing a refined sugar diet for a while now where I avoid syrups such as corn syrup. I definitely was addicted to sugar but its easy to find replacements. I feel much better in many ways, some being I feel much more energized and happy with how I look.-

- 14-DAY STREAK
I have never really considered myself "addicted" to sugar but once I have actually started to look at the label on the foods that I eat, I am seeing how much added sugar there is and corn syrup. I can be fueling my body with much healthier things than that.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat motivated you to schedule or attend your check-up, and how did it make you feel afterward that you completed this action?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 2:42 PMI had to go to a yearly check-up and it just so happened that I have it during week 2. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Claire Otterson 4/08/2025 2:32 PMIt was very low. To decrease it even more, I can be careful with how much water I use for my dishes and be a little less stingy about how much I wash my hands/ substitute with hand sanitizer sometimes.
