Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

Action Track

Environmental Volunteer Opportunity - FCR Volunteer Day

Give back to your community & the environment by participating in an environmentally-related volunteer activity this April. Not only will you get points in the EcoChallenge, but this counts towards FCR's corporate volunteer day objective as well!

ONE-TIME ACTION

Work and Organizations

Join or Start a Green Team

Green teams strengthen resilience by creating shared responsibility. I will join or help start a green team in my workplace, school, or community group to support sustainability and collaboration.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Reduce Refined Sugar

Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Learn to Be a Responsible Pet Owner

Being a responsible pet owner means minimizing the impact pets have on wildlife by keeping them indoors, never setting them 'free' into nature, and supervising pets when they are outside to prevent them from hunting or disturbing wild animals. This also keeps our pets safe from harm. I will spend 15 minutes learning about ways to ensure my pet’s behavior and care practices protect local wildlife and their ecosystems.

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 45 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Today's weather is nice so I took a walk over my lunch break. Liberty Village is such a nice neighbourhood to explore. My fave part about taking walks around the neighbourhood is seeing all the cute dogs enjoying the sun.

I recently got braces for my teeth and cutting back on refined sugar is beneficial for both my physical and oral health, so this is something that I'm definitely sticking to beyond the April EcoChallenge.

How did exercising each day impact your physical and mental resilience? What activities helped you feel stronger, more flexible, or more capable of adapting?

Exercising every day means showing up no matter what, and by doing this, I've become more responsible and disciplined at sticking to my workout routines. Lately, I've been into reformer pilates, pickleball, indoor rowing, and doing some functional strength training using weights and a cable machine. I learn something new about myself and my body whenever I'm exercising, which is great!

Last April 21st, I participated in a spring cleanup event at Right to Food's Sumac Community Centre. Together with fellow FCR employees, we took part in different activities such as gardening, shovelling, and seed packing. It was great meeting the Right to Food staff and their CEO, Nick Saul, who also gave us a tour at the centre. Volunteering gives me the opportunity to do something meaningful for the community, and I look forward to more volunteering sessions in the future!
