Community and Connection

Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 2 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Empowering the Next Generation

Conduct an Audit with a Young Person

Learning by doing empowers youth. I will conduct an environmental audit — such as a home energy or waste audit — alongside a young person to teach them practical sustainability skills and see what I learn from them as well.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Empowering the Next Generation

Support Youth Climate Activists

Youth activists are leading the charge for a better world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about or supporting youth climate activists through sharing their work or attending their events.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Empowering the Next Generation

Host a Bio-blitz

A bio-blitz helps youth engage with local biodiversity. I will organize or participate in a bio-blitz with young people to identify and document the plants, animals, and insects in our area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Learn About Water Justice

Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 30 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Collect Rain Water

Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports gardens. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for 2 outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials

Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Advocate For Better Food Packaging

When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Learn about the Magic of Seaweed

Seaweed is a powerful ally for the planet. I will spend 20 minutes learning how seaweed can improve ocean health, capture carbon, support sustainable food systems, and inspire eco-friendly products.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Health and Well-Being

Prepare for Extreme Weather

Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Learn to be a Responsible Tourist

Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 30 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.

An action I took to advocate for sustainable food packaging was selecting wooden and reusable forks from the school's cafeteria. Instead of using single-use plastic forks.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?

    Reese OHern's avatar
    Reese OHern 4/30/2025 12:25 PM
I continued to purchase eco-friendly and sustainable makeup products and brands. I already use brands that I know are eco-friendly and are animal cruelty-free, so I will continue to only shop sustainable cosmetics.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What new insights did you gain about seaweed’s role in combating environmental challenges? Were you surprised how many products you may already be using contain seaweed?

    Reese OHern's avatar
    Reese OHern 4/30/2025 12:19 PM
I learned that seaweed not only creates homes and food for many sea creatures, but it also absorbs carbon dioxide in the water. I was surprised to discover how many products I use that contain seaweed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did collecting rainwater influence your understanding of sustainable water use? What tasks or activities could benefit most from rainwater collection in your household?

    Reese OHern's avatar
    Reese OHern 4/30/2025 12:03 PM

    Reese OHern 4/27/2025 9:04 PM
By creating a Bio-blitz, I think it allowed the kids I babysit to view the world differently, knowing that bugs and other animals are important and interesting. I think that activities like bio blitz are important for the youth so they can learn to appreciate the outside world more.

By building a compost box together, we learned more about what belongs in the trash, recycling, and compost. It helped us to understand better how important it is to dispose of our trash correctly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community and Connection

    Reese OHern's avatar
    Reese OHern 4/24/2025 12:06 PM
I contributed to the sharing economy because I borrowed one of my moms tops for a job interview instead of buying anew one. I also gave away a few clothes that my friends wanted after cleaning out my closet.
