Water

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Learn About Ordinary Magic

Resilience is an everyday magic in all of us. I will spend 10 minutes learning about resilience and psychologist Ann Masten’s concept of “ordinary magic,” which shows how people adapt and thrive through small, daily strengths.

DAILY ACTION

Take the Pre-Survey

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

What is resilience?

Reflect on My Own Resilience

Resilience is personal and collective. I will reflect on a time when I adapted to change in my own life, writing down what helped me and what I learned from the experience.

I save water by running my dishwasher only when it is full, and I mean FULL :). I use the normal wash setting, no pre-rinse. I also conserve energy by letting the dishes air dry.
I air dry some clothes, especially those that take longer in the dryer, like jeans, sweatshirts, and other thicker items. My kids have adopted this practice too!

In the winter I take advantage of the fact that air drying some of my laundry helps return some humidity to the bone-dry indoor air. And I set my clothes in front of the air register to take advantage of that flow of warm air to help them dry quicker. That, plus the energy savings - its a win-win-win
