Calculate My Carbon Impact

Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Plant (or Adopt) a Plant

Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.

Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 60 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.

COMPLETED

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 27

Protect Pollinators with a Plant or Mini-Habitat

Pollinators need a little help from their friends like us! I will take 2 steps to protect pollinators, such as planting a pollinator-friendly plant, installing a pollinator hotel, or by leaving leaf litter for pollinators to call home.

COMPLETED 17
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 1 people or perform 1 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

COMPLETED 11

After timing the length and making a concerted effort to reduce shower time, I discovered I can get clean without just standing under the spray. I plan to continue this practice I've previously replaced my toilet with low use/flow use and only water my lawn/garden as needed. I;m still looking for other conservation ideas.

I picked up my pollinator garden flowers for the bed prepared in my yard. I chose knockout roses, amaryllis, hollyhocks, dianthus and celosia - lots of color and varying height. I can't wait to plant them this weekend!

As this is a great team building challenge to connect outside of our professional lives, my team is participating together.

I chose to participate in this challenge because I believe we can all do microevents to preserve and protect the resources we have and fit those into our lifestyle if we aren't able to do bigger impacts. Since I purchased my home, I taken our environment into consideration as I remodeled, adding in energy efficient windows & appliances, solar panels, low water use toilets, and stating composting to help build up the yard, which was in desperate shape. This year, I am starting a pollinator garden and am very excited to see that grow!
