Host or Join a Cleanup Event

SDG 11, 17

Within my community at home or work, I will organize or attend a local cleanup event.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Plastic Bag Recycling

When you get a sample in a biohazard bag, don't throw out the bag! As long as it is not visibly soiled it can be put into one of the canvas bags that are hanging around the lab. Worried that there is water in the bag because the sample was on ice? Don't! Just dump out the ice and shake it out, then stuff it in the canvas bags.

Styrofoam Reusing/Recycling

Rather than disassembling that box you received something in, check if it can be used by RLS or Sendouts. If not, don't throw away the Styrofoam insert; instead put it into one of the labeled bins on FB.2 or FB.4!

Bottle Cap Recycling

during April, as you walk around your neighborhood, out shopping, or on your commute, keep an eye out for loose plastic caps on the sidewalk. Pick these up and drop them in our collection bin in the lab.

Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk

SDG 15

Each day, I will go on a plog or plalk for 15 minutes and collect 5 items of litter.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate & Ecosystems Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
What was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?

It has been cold so I haven't gotten out as often as I wanted to. Today is beautiful, and I went out for 31 minutes. I filled about half of a kitchen sized bag and got thanked by 3 people!
