Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

Take Part in a Community Beautification Project

Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 1 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Learn About Water Justice

Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet many communities worldwide lack it. I will spend 5 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is most affected, and share one insight in the feed.

DAILY ACTION

Soil and Food

Compost My Food Waste

Composting turns waste into a resource, building soil health and cutting methane emissions from landfills. I will compost food scraps at home, school, or in my community, which avoids sending up to 0.42 lbs (0.19 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day.

Soil and Food

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals meals each day.

DAILY ACTION

Water

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

Soil and Food

Learn About Sustainable Farming Practices

Healthy soils and resilient food systems depend on how we grow food. I will spend 5 minutes learning about farming practices such as regenerative agriculture, agroecology, or permaculture, and reflect on how they support both people and the planet.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Soil and Food

Preserve or Store Food

Preserving food through freezing, drying, or fermenting helps food last longer, reduces waste, and ensures supplies during difficult times. I will preserve or store food during the challenge to strengthen household and community resilience.

    Water
What water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?

learned that water justice is closely tied to access, availability, and responsible use, especially in regions facing water stress. The sessions and awareness activities highlighted how everyday consumption patterns—such as inefficient water use, leaks, and water‑intensive food choices—can indirectly impact communities that already struggle with limited or unreliable water access. Interactive learning, such as understanding the water required to grow common grains and pulses, made it clear how agricultural water use plays a significant role in overall scarcity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Soil and Food
What preservation method did you try, and how did it work for you? How can these practices help reduce waste and improve food security?

I tried basic preservation through proper storage and reuse of prepared food, focusing on refrigerating leftovers promptly and repurposing them into another meal rather than discarding them. By planning portions better and storing food correctly, the quality and taste were retained, making it easy to consume the food the next day without waste. This simple habit proved effective and required very little additional effort.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Soil and Food
Which farming or soil practice did you find most inspiring, and why? How could these approaches help farmers and communities adapt to future challenges?

One of the most inspiring practices I learned about was regenerative farming, particularly the focus on improving soil health through composting, crop diversity, and reduced soil disturbance. What stood out was the idea of treating soil as a living system—enhancing organic matter and soil carbon so that the land becomes more productive and resilient over time. Research and sustainability resources highlighted how practices like composting and diverse crop rotations can help restore soil health while also supporting climate resilience by improving water retention and reducing long‑term degradation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Soil and Food
What meal did you enjoy the most, and what alternatives did you try? Did anything surprise you about how satisfying plant-based options can be?

he meal I enjoyed the most was a freshly prepared, plant‑forward dish that highlighted seasonal vegetables and whole grains. It stood out for its simplicity, flavor, and freshness, while still feeling satisfying and nourishing. Alongside this, I consciously tried alternatives such as plant‑based proteins and vegetarian versions of familiar meals, which proved to be equally enjoyable without compromising on taste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Soil and Food
What did you notice about how much of your food waste could be composted? How does composting change the way you see “waste”?

noticed that a significant portion of my food waste—such as vegetable peels, leftover cooked food, and plate waste—was actually compostable when segregated correctly. Awareness sessions and signage reinforced that most organic waste can be diverted from landfill if kept free from contamination like plastics or mixed packaging.
