I will say that I enjoy belonging to my gardening club because it makes me feel more connected to my area and also intergenerationally connected-I don't spend as much time with older people in my area because I am not from here and have no family in the area. So interacting with this community has been delightful for me.

I picked up garbage while running today and we attended a girl scout clean up event for Earth Day. I love to pick up trash when I run, but it also makes me feel a little bit overwhelmed. Especially because someone in my neighborhood has an addiction to tiny bottles of raspberry smirnoff and I worry about their a. health b. choice in alcohol c. and inability to ever find a trashcan.

I mean, public schools need all the help we can give the atm. My scouts are closely connected to their school and work to put together recycling programs and other events for their middle school. We'll see if it makes a difference.

I'm hoping that it helps retain jobs in my area and make cost of living affordable for the people who work in the area- this way, we have fewer impacts on travel to work and we keep money in the local economy. My local farms where I shop also use H1B visas for their farm workers over the summer, so I'm hoping that this helps fortify the economies of those places where they bring money seasonally- this in turn will help the environment in those locations.
