Amanda's actions
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 8 hours in my community.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Grow Local
I will research and plant a garden filled with native fruits, vegetables, and flowers to nurture local wildlife and ecosystems. I will find nearby nurseries that offer plants native to my area.
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Grow LocalHow did it feel to plant something native in your area to support local wildlife and biodiversity? What did you plant? Please consider adding a photo.
Amanda Moore 4/30/2024 6:59 AMIt feels nice to get your hands dirty while feeling the heat of the day shine on your back. I am thankful to have planted the garden at mom's so we can benefit from it all summer. We have tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, lettuces, cabbage, brussel sprouts, etc.-
Lenora Andrews 5/01/2024 9:57 AMSounds fantastic Amanda...If you are at GLC let me know when you plan to bring some fresh vegetables in from your garden. 😋..just kidding. But, this is just amazing!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Amanda Moore 4/15/2024 6:49 AMThe newness of spring and its crispy chill in the air is quite refreshing and brings about an idea that change is about evolving and is necessary for growth. Earth Month is a great kickoff to being outside and taking in the sights, smells, sounds and feelings of the outdoors. It gets us out of the winter funk and gloomy weather, and into the brightness and approaching warmth of summer. I especially take time out during this season to embrace the outdoors and try to hike somewhere new. Get out and breathe consistently and you will be motivated in other areas of life!-
Amal Ghazi 4/15/2024 10:17 AMI am more energetic when I spend time outside. I never want the day to end LOL But when it does, I feel like I sleep better. I know this is directly related to the increased Vitamin D and reduced electronic stimulation I get from my phone/TV.
Also, when I am outside, my kids are as well.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Consume only Needs vs WantsConsuming only what we need vs. what we want can be really hard to do. What has been challenging about committing to this action for a month? What have you learned about yourself? Will you change any habits going forward?
Amanda Moore 4/05/2024 6:58 AMSociety has created a high consumption mentality. We need the newest and best, most high tech, etc. Rather than replacing my phone this go around when the screen cracked (like I normally would), I had it repaired instead. Did I really want the latest model with better features - YES! But, do I really NEED the newest model - NO!-
Lauren Combs 4/14/2024 6:42 AMI agree, society pushes more, more, more and it takes focus to be intentional with consumption. -
Lenora Andrews 4/05/2024 9:15 AMI agree Amanda. I usually keep my cell phone until I start having serious issues with it. I have had phones repaired before too instead of getting a new one. This helps our environment!
