Economy & Communities
Carry My Trash

I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me each day to raise my awareness of how much waste I produce.
Education & Livelihood
Watch a Documentary About Education or Work

I will watch 1 documentaries about equity, gender, health, or peace.
Economy & Communities
Online Energy Audit
SDG 7
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Economy & Communities
Analyze Your Utility Bills
SDG 7
I spend 60 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.
Economy & Communities
Choose LED Bulbs
SDG 7
I will replace 5 incandescent light bulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Economy & Communities
Watch a Documentary About Economy, Energy, or Industry
SDG 7, 9, 12
I will watch 1 documentaries about economy, energy, or industry.
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Basic Needs & Security
Know Your Produce
SDG 2
I will become a savvy produce shopper when buying organic and non-organic items.
Basic Needs & Security
Calculate Your Water Footprint
SDG 6
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Basic Needs & Security
Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian Recipe
I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.
Education & Livelihood
Plan A Staycation in Your Community
SDG 11
For an upcoming vacation, I will spend 120 minutes planning out a staycation in my region. For reference, one several hour flight releases the equivalent of nearly 14% of the annual emissions from a car.
Education & Livelihood
Research Impact Investing
SDG 8
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing or my current investment portfolio to determine if they align with my values.
Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Health & Equity
Make Cleaning Products
SDG 3
I will make a few homemade cleaning products.
Economy & Communities
Create A Readiness Plan
SDG 9
Each day, I will spend time developing a readiness plan for my household in the event of an emergency.

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Climate & Ecosystems
Calculate Your Carbon Impact
SDG 13
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Watch a Documentary About Economy, Energy, or IndustryWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Adam Moen 4/27/2023 6:21 AMI watched "We the Power." It is European centered but it talks about the legal timeline of pushing for renewable and cleaner energy. I think it's important because it demonstrated on a governmental level one way to make a change-- as well as giving a great example to strive for here in our efforts to do the same. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Watch a Documentary About Climate Change or NatureWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Adam Moen 4/25/2023 6:19 AMChasing Ice is a documentary where they show the impact of climate change using photos over a period of time. So you watch over time how the ice in Greenland, Iceland, and Alaska change over just a few years. Highly recommend. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Adam Moen 4/21/2023 7:10 AMIf you can afford an extra day off work, it can be really fun to travel by car-- even if it takes longer. You can find different attractions/places along your route that make the traveling itself a great part of the vacation!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Host or Join a Cleanup EventHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Adam Moen 4/20/2023 6:02 AMMy sister is heavily involved with neighborhood clean ups, so it was a really nice way to hang out with her and enjoy other's company all while cleaning up our city. Everything always looks so nice afterwards and it gives a really nice feeling. I find that people are less likely to liter in those specific spots (or at least it takes longer before they start back up again) since it looks clean. People tend to litter in areas where there is already trash. -

Adam Moen 4/18/2023 6:20 AMWelcome to all the new members!! Again, feel free to invite anyone you'd like. We're in the lead compared to the other Cleveland Clinic teams which is really awesome to see. :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Adam Moen 4/18/2023 6:18 AMI helped my sister plant some milkweed in her garden for the monarch butterflies. Milkweed is the only plant that monarchs will lay their eggs on, so it's important that milkweed is planted for them. I used to take care of a butterfly garden with the Lorain County Metroparks and it was a lot of fun helping care for the butterflies and learn about the different plants they like. -
Adam Moen 4/17/2023 6:16 AMIf you haven't already joined the One Healthcare EcoChallenge I highly suggest it. REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Know Your ProduceWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Adam Moen 4/17/2023 6:12 AMThe list between foods that have more or less pesticide residue wasn't all too surprising when I really thought about it. The cleaner ones are food that is grown for the most part in the ground or has some sort of hard shell/cover/barrier over itself to protect it. While the ones with more residue often have only a soft thin skin and tend to grow on bushes/vines. The bushes and vines are a lot easier for pests to get to than things in the dirt. So farmers most likely have to use more pesticides on them-- thus more residue.
