Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 5 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 5 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Community and Connection
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 2 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Community and Connection
Meet My Neighbors
Strong neighborhoods are built on connection and trust. I will introduce myself to 1 neighbors or spend time getting to know people in my community.
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Health and Well-Being
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Vehicle Idling
Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about your neighbors or community through this action? How can building connections with your neighbors improve your community?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 11:01 PMI learnt more about neighbors that I previously didnt know much about. I thought it was interesting and very fun to get to know different people that I normally dont talk to, and to hear their opinion and thoughts on how the community has been for them etc. Building connectiosn with neighbors can help strengthen the bond between a community, and allow for everyone to feel more welcome. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat new places or experiences did you discover in your local area? How has exploring your community changed your perspective or sense of connection?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 11:00 PMI went to two new parks around my house for this action, I thought it was interesting to see the smaller parks that I normally dont go to. I thought it was very grounding and connected me more with my community and the people I saw at the parks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 10:58 PMThe most rewarding part of bringing people together was the time spent, without distractions and just enjoying eachother's presences with lots of good food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 10:48 PMI learned that tourism, when the toursits arent aware can lead to negative impacts on wildlife, by endangering areas of biodiversity, encouraging bad treatment of animals for human entertainment etc... I think my travel decisions contribute mainly positively to the conservation of natrue because I feel as though my parents are very aware when we go on trips, and chose activities after doing lots of research on them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 10:44 PMMy action that I chose for leave no trace was Leave what i find. I enjoyed my experience, instead of picking any pretty flowers, I left them there and in a way enjoyed the idea that they have a longer future ahead of them. People might not adhere to the leave no trace principles because they are thinking more selfishly then selflessly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?
Sophie Mello 4/29/2025 10:38 PMMinimizing my campfire impact is a way that I can reduce my impact on nature the next time I spend time outdoors, because that can help the environment by me burnign my wood and coal to ash and spreading that ash around different places, leaving much less negative waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?
Sophie Mello 4/20/2025 12:59 PMIt made me more aware of the times that I leave my car on, when Im not actively driving somewhere. It made me more aware of the amount of carbon Im wasting by just sitting in my car when Im not going anywhere. Another transportation habit I can adopt to reduce my environmental impact is opening my windows more instead of using the AC, and carpooling more often. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Sophie Mello 4/20/2025 12:57 PMNot really unexpected, but the amount of cigarrette butts that I found was very shocking to me. I also found the wrapping for a tampon which was a bit surprising and gross to me. It felt good to know that I was doing my part to clean up a community area that people like to go to enjoy their day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Sophie Mello 4/20/2025 12:54 PMI emit the most carbon with transportation, typically driving only myself or one other person in addition to myself. I also take planes that emit a lot of carbon aswell. I can carpool with other people to reduce this output. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now? What was the most challenging part of reducing refined sugar, and how did you overcome it?
Sophie Mello 4/20/2025 12:29 PMI dont think I was addicted to it, but I definitely ate it more than I was aware of. Now I feel like I might still eat sugar but am more aware of the effect it has on my body, my mood and my well-being.-

I too do not think I was addicted to sugar. I have been cutting sugar for about 6 months. I use no sugar in tea or coffee. Less /pur cane sugar when a recipe calls for sugar.
