At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

Being outside, listening to the sounds bring me peace. Days get hectic, taking time to breathe fresh air and take in the sounds of nature helps to calm my soul.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

Keeping our community clean is important to me. We live in such a beautiful area however living so close to the lake where we see many visitors lends to a lot of littering of beverage cans and trash which not only looks bad but is dangerous to the wildlife in the area. I am making it a challenge for myself to bring a trash bag on my walks and pick up the trash on my way.

Today I took some time to learn more about our Oceans and the importance of purchasing sustainable seafood. I was amazed to find out how many illegal fisheries there are and how they affect our ocean life.
