Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Choose Native Plants
Native plants provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help ecosystems adapt to change. I will choose native plants for my yard, balcony, or community space instead of non-native or ornamental species to support biodiversity resilience.
Personal
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
What is resilience?
Reflect on My Own Resilience
Resilience is personal and collective. I will reflect on a time when I adapted to change in my own life, writing down what helped me and what I learned from the experience.
Water
Learn About Water Resilience
Resilience in water systems means being able to adapt, recover, and thrive through change. I will spend 10 minutes learning how people and communities build water resilience and reflect on how I can apply this knowledge.
Action Track
Take Part in a Community Beautification Project
Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 1 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.
Personal
Explore Resources for Managing Anxiety
Anxiety can be overwhelming, but resources and strategies can help. I will spend 15 minutes exploring resources that help manage anxiety and stress to support my mental and psychological well being.
Soil and Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals meals each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Did being more prepared improve your peace of mind or make you feel more prepared to help others? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Hannah Meier 4/25/2026 1:13 PMNow that the weather is picking up, it is very important to learn about how I can be as safe as possible. The weather causes me a lot of anxiety in a state where we have tornadoes, floods, etc. I made sure to buy a battery-powered radio in case of an emergency. -

The ecochallenge has been very eye-opening. I am currently moving, and my roommates and I are trying to learn how we can be as sustainable as possible and reduce our waste (and also save money by doing so). I am excited to see where this journey takes us. I want to grow some plants for food in our area and reuse misc jars and mason jars for cups. -
Hannah Meier 4/21/2026 4:46 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
The Ecochallenge has been very insightful into my own habits, what I want to do differently, and what I already do that I can do better at to be a more sustainable person! -

My mom and I planted some black-eyed susans! I think they are so pretty, even though they make me a bit sneezy.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat meal did you enjoy the most, and what alternatives did you try? Did anything surprise you about how satisfying plant-based options can be?
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:37 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
On this day, I went to a fully vegan restaurant and got cauliflower tacos. It was so good and very interesting, as I was a little apprehensive, but I went all in! I enjoyed it, and also got a chai tea with almond milk.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction TrackWhat community activity did you join, and how did it make you feel connected to others? How do projects like this strengthen your community over time?
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:36 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
On this day, I was particularly involved with picking up trash! In Sioux Falls, there's a lot more litter in our parks than people think, caught in fences, alongside rivers, etc. I think everyone should be involved in a task like this since the reward is so high and fulfilling for yourself.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalWhat resource or strategy stood out to you the most, and how could it help you strengthen your resilience when you face stress or uncertainty?
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:31 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
Anxiety can be very debilitating in a world where we hear a lot of bad news, and the largest impact that I have taken is going on a walk to clear my mind and give me something to physically focus on. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:30 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
Not only did I take a shorter shower, but I tried to take a fully cold shower because of the benefits, and because I just dyed my hair! I found it very invigorating as shocking as it was. Other water practices I can incorporate include being mindful of how much water I use when doing dishes and making sure to shut it off when washing a dish. -
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:28 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
I think the ecochallenge will be interesting to complete now that I can do more outdoor tasks as the weather is getting warmer! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you learn about resilience in water systems, and how does it shape the way you think about water in your own life?
Hannah Meier 4/15/2026 12:27 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
I learned about water resilience trackers while scrolling through articles and found their framework interesting. Understanding water consumption is important so we can make effective change and influence policy.
