Ashley's actions
Climate + Air
Online Energy Audit
Energy use and waste is often invisible. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

Ashley Mckinney 4/03/2024 4:22 AMBeing held up in bed after surgery is helping me not use as much waste that could hurt the earth. Once healed I could keep up with this to make the world a somewhat better place Ex. Littering, ordering food. Meal prep/using own water bottle is helping as well -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Ashley Mckinney 4/03/2024 4:04 AMMy biggest thing would have to be littering. I believe that most animals could die from littering and it could be toxic to the earth as well -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Weekly Meal PlanningHow did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?
Ashley Mckinney 4/03/2024 4:01 AMI think the weeks go buy easier when you have food planned for the week. It feels nice knowing I am saving energy/time but making my food at home rather than going out or ordering something -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Online Energy AuditWhere did you do an energy audit (work, home, school, other) and what did you learn?
Ashley Mckinney 4/03/2024 4:00 AMMy home. I constantly have some lights and fans going which can be turned off while not using. My electric bill could be cut down doing so -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Zero Waste DayWhat was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?
Ashley Mckinney 4/03/2024 3:58 AMNot too hard. Ate mostly fruits and vegetables. And filled up my own water
