Wildlife

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.

COMPLETED 9
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

COMPLETED 9
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Food Waste

Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

COMPLETED 9
DAILY ACTIONS

Health and Well-Being

Declutter and Donate

Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Health and Well-Being

Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

DAILY ACTIONS

Learn how Businesses measure their Carbon footprint

Businesses can play a big role in reducing carbon emissions and it starts with measuring them. I will review the video and infographic provided to learn about the three Scopes of corporate greenhouse gas emissions, and how Donaldson is managing and reducing operational emissions at all our sites. I will think about and share my reduction ideas in the link provided.

Sustainable Innovation

Learn about climate action specific to your job function

As engines that keep all businesses running, employees can be catalysts for more sustainable outcomes at scale. I will spend at least 20 minutes reviewing the action guide specific to my job function (scroll down to the circles in the linked page below) and think about one way I could drive more positive impact in my current job

I took a nice jog outside yesterday without headphones and noticed the amount of birds that are chirping. Everyday there are more and more birds and it helps affirm that Spring is here and we won't have to deal with Winter weather for 6 months! Great time of the year and certainly helps boost the mood.

There are so many sounds in nature that are more relaxing. I've seen other runners miss some cool wildlife experiences because they have their music on so loud they don't hear things! A couple weeks ago I watched numerous people run right past a flock of turkeys, all loudly gobbling, because everyone had their headphones on and didn't hear the commotion in the trees.

Decluttering a house in the spring brings a refreshing sense of renewal and clarity, making the space feel lighter and more organized. Donating items to those in need through buy-nothing groups on Facebook adds a layer of fulfillment, knowing that my/our unused belongings are finding new homes and helping others. This act of generosity not only benefits the recipients but also fosters a sense of community and connection.

I always find it amazing how well I feel after decluttering and how often I push out the activity. I'm trying to do my best to minimize how much clutter I bring into the house and being more disciplined to reduce it on a daily or weekly basis.
