"It's my mission to make an effort everyday to do something for my environment. I believe that each little improvement counts, whether that's by eating a vegan meal, planting some flowers, or taking a walk outside. By the end of this eco-challenge, I hope to continue making little improvements each day for a healthier, happier earth."

Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 3 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 4 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Community and Connection
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 5 people or perform 5 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Community and Connection
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services to support my community, such as helping someone with a task, tutoring, repairing something, or volunteering my expertise.
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 60 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Community and Connection
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 5 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 20 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Community and Connection
Explore the Feed and Connect with Others
I will spend 15 minutes reading the Ecochallenge feed each day and giving high fives or commenting on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Wildlife
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Here is the plant I adopted! It's a peace lily, and I've named it Luna. It hasn't bloomed yet, but I'll post a picture once it does. Peace lilies are native to Central and South America, but can be kept as house plants in lots of different places. I learned that they are actually one of the top plants for removing indoor air pollutants, so that's a big plus that I didn't even know about until today. I haven't had a houseplant in quite a while, so I'm looking forward to taking care of Luna and can't wait for her to bloom. 🌼-

My favorite flowers are back in bloom! 💛 I know that people view dandelions as a weed these days, but that wasn't always the case. Dandelions used to be prized greatly for both their beauty and medicinal use. Their leaves are some of the most nutritious greens in the world, outperforming even kale and spinach. Dandelion flowers can also be eaten, and are used raw in salads, dried as tea, or mulled into dandelion wine (which I have never tried but hear is delicious). My personal favorite is dandelion tea, but my friend likes to make salads with dandelion greens. Maybe I will try that during this eco-challenge!-

I'm really enjoying trying to work meatless and vegan meals into my diet. I've never been totally vegan or vegetarian, but I used to try to have one or two of my meals every day be vegan, and I kind of missed it. This eco-challenge is getting me back into some of my old hobbies!-
