Lauren's actions
Personal
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Community
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services that contribute to local self-sufficiency, such as teaching a repair skill or helping with a neighbor's garden.
Water
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports local needs. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
What is resilience?
Share a Definition of Resilience
Sharing builds common understanding. I will share 5 definitions of resilience that resonate with me—through conversations, social media, or the event feed—to help others explore what resilience means.
Water
Create My Own Water Action
Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.
Action Track
Recycle Your Shoes!
Donate shoes at MCI’s shoe recycling event to support local reuse and responsible recycling. Footwear in any condition is accepted. Reusable shoes will be cleaned and distributed to people in need, and shoes that can’t be reused will be recycled into materials such as playground mulch. (See HR email for details.) If you’re not at MCI, consider doing a spring cleaning of your closet and dropping off gently used clothing for donation.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Community
Take Part in a Community Beautification Project
Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 1 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.
Work and Organizations
Attend a Lunch & Learn
Join a Lunch & Learn to get to know a local organization that supports our community and/or the environment. If your site does not host an official Lunch and Learn, spend 30 minutes independently learning about a local organization and its impact.

Soil and Food
Preserve or Store Food
Preserving food through freezing, drying, or fermenting helps food last longer, reduces waste, and ensures supplies during difficult times. I will preserve or store food during the challenge to strengthen household and community resilience.
Personal
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 5 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Personal
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 60 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 60 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Personal
Learn About Emergency Preparedness
Being prepared can save lives during extreme weather. I will spend 15 minutes learning about the most common weather risks in my area and the steps I can take to stay safe, such as signing up for local alerts or identifying nearby shelters.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalWhat did you notice about your thoughts or emotions during or after meditation? How might mindfulness or calmness support your well-being day to day?
Lauren Mack 4/09/2026 11:40 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
During meditation, I noticed my thoughts slowed down and my emotions felt less intense. Afterward, I felt calmer and more clear-headed. Mindfulness helps day to day by reducing stress, improving focus, and making it easier to respond thoughtfully instead of reacting quickly.-
