  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

The thing I hate the most about cleanup efforts is how many cigarettes I find. It is absolutely horrifying that people still smoke knowing how much it hurts themselves and others and how they can so carelessly litter that toxic waste onto our beautiful planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What did you discover during your energy audit that you weren’t aware of before? What steps will you take to reduce energy use, and how will they benefit both the environment and your household?

I rent an apartment so I can not switch out my inefficient equipment, like my refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. I can make sure that I only use these items when I absolutely need to. I do not have A/C or central heating, which is great energy wise, and I vow to use blankets instead of space heaters and use a window fan instead of buying a window A/C unit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
Why is protecting forests important to you, and what did you learn from your advocacy efforts? How can you inspire others to join in advocating for forest protection?

There are so many cool ways to learn about native species! I found a guide online that shows all the wildflowers in a local park and it says whether they are native or introduced. I plan on going to a guided nature walk at that park so I can learn even more.

Water bottle companies take water that should be free to the people of that land and sell it to far away countries, causing water insecurity even when clean water is located nearby. Drinking tap water is a must to help prevent this tragedy!

Who is most affected by environmental degration or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected? What actions can you take to support those affected by these issues?

Living on a costal area, we are susceptible to climate change more than most. Redlining has made low income and BIPOC communities the ones who face these challenges the worst. I read a great chapter in "California Against the Sea: Visions for Our Vanishing Coast" by Rosanna Xia that address this happening in Marin City.
