Take the Veg Pledge!
Eating a plant-based diet is one of the most impactful (and delicious) ways to reduce your environmental footprint. Follow the link below to join WSP's week-long Veg Pledge and eat vegetarian or vegan from 22-28 April. Take it one step further and host a plant-based pot-luck in your office during April!
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 10 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Reduce Animal Products
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Melanie Lulue 4/29/2024 6:04 AMBeing outside in nature is therapy to me. I have a beautiful backyard and I spend a lot of time on my screened patio enjoying the beauty of the trees and wildlife (birds and squirrels). It's very peaceful for me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Reduce Animal ProductsHow does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Melanie Lulue 4/29/2024 6:02 AMWhile I eat meats, I limit the amount and usually eat chicken and seafood as my animal protein. I also do not eat animal protein for every meal so my consumption has a lower impact on green gases. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Melanie Lulue 4/29/2024 6:00 AMI read labels and make sure the seafood I consume is harvested in an eco-friendly way. We have a tendency to overfish when it comes to wild caught and I keep this in mind when I'm purchasing seafood for home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Melanie Lulue 4/29/2024 5:58 AMI was on a cruise recently and I brought back chocolates as gifts. These chocolates were farmed by the locals who grow the cocoa beans and harvest them to make the fine chocolates. I support the locals and have delicious chocolates to consume and share. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Melanie Lulue 4/19/2024 12:44 PMI limit my use of plastic items while at home and I try to reduce my use when I'm out in public. I use reusable bags when grocery shopping and I skip the straw at restaurants. When I cruise I bring tumblers for drinks and I have reusable straws too if a drink needs one. -
Melanie Lulue 3/15/2024 7:53 AMI really enjoy the WSP challenges and this one is special because it is a way to learn about the environment and how to make a difference.
