Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 10 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Wildlife
Log Species to Help Scientists
The more we know about the wildlife around us, the better we can protect species. I will download a wildlife monitoring app and log 10 animal or plant species I discover.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 10 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Community and Connection
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community and Connection
Meet My Neighbors
Strong neighborhoods are built on connection and trust. I will introduce myself to 3 neighbors or spend time getting to know people in my community.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 2 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 1 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Health and Well-Being
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 2 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you enjoy or learn from attending a local event in your community? How did participating in this event deepen your connection to your local area?
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 11:57 AMI enjoyed going to my local farmers market where I went to my favorite pop-up stand which is Asian food. I got my bao buns and pork buns and I also got some smoothies which were good. I like to go to these farmers markets because I like to support the smaller businesses over big corporations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about your neighbors or community through this action? How can building connections with your neighbors improve your community?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 10:43 AMIn the state of California the common preparation is to have a sturdy house or building you live in within the case of an earthquake. Also to have flashlights and/or candle which will most likely be used in power outages. On top of this have a place you can go to in the case of evacuation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat motivated you to schedule or attend your check-up, and how did it make you feel afterward that you completed this action?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 10:38 AMEating fruits and vegetables are important to eat and they positively affect you and your health. I ate apples, carrots, and watermelon today which are all high in vitamin counts. These vitamins are good for overall health and make sure you are not low on nutrients. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 10:03 AMPollinators help the growth of the plants in my local environment. This is very important because without pollinators such as bees, hummingbirds the plant life would most likely decrease due to lack of spread of nutrients and Pollin. This is why it is key to be involved and knowledgeable about the local species and be safe around possible hives and bees nests. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 9:51 AMTourists when visiting an area they are unfamiliar with area usually unaware of how simple actions can affect the nearby wildlife. For example one of the most visited places is Hawaii and I did some research on things that tourists should be aware of. Sunscreen in Hawaii is very strict as you can't use sunscreen with certain things in them that may hurt their reefs which is why Hawaii is so strict on things you bring into the state. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat species did you discover and log? Why do you think that logging species can help protect them?
Noa Lehr 4/28/2025 9:40 AMIn my area I have a lot of squirrels especially on and near the beach hiding in the bushes. Along with seagulls, pigeons and I saw a fox in the street as well. By logging these species I am able to become aware of the species in my area and by logging them again in the future I can find out how their population is being affecting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Noa Lehr 4/14/2025 10:36 AMI feel that the most common piece of trash which was also expected by me was the cigarette butt which I found a ton of. I did my cleanup in OB a while back and found of plastic and cardboard just laying in the streets. The most uncommon piece of trash I found which I didn't expect was glass because there was a lot of broken bottles in the area I chose for my cleanup.
