Reduce Food Waste

Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. Without our precious forests full of healthy trees, our existence will suffer. For advocacy, if you see something, say something. Some litters, educate them, some one leaves a trace behind, provide factual education.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you learn about the importance of wetlands and oceans while advocating for their protection? How do you think your actions could contribute to positive change for these ecosystems?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?

Lately, the produce that is sold in local markets, organic and non, seem to be coming to the store already in aged condition. The shelf / refrigeration life seems to be less than half. At times, once purchased there is no time for storage, there is an immediate need to use. Store buyers, need to be vigilant about fresh produce as pricing are soaring, we cannot be at risk for molding or food that has already started to break down.

To kick off the month, we head a trail maintenance, garbage collection and education session at Harwood Acres, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The response was phenomenal with over 65 participants from the county and many surrounding areas. The team all had a goal and accomplished great things, with even bigger projects to come. Our team assists at parks all over Allegheny County and surrounding areas.
