Share My Why
Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
Wildlife
Log Species to Help Scientists
The more we know about the wildlife around us, the better we can protect species. I will download a wildlife monitoring app and log 5 animal or plant species I discover.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 90 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Wildlife
Learn to Be a Responsible Pet Owner
Being a responsible pet owner means minimizing the impact pets have on wildlife by keeping them indoors, never setting them 'free' into nature, and supervising pets when they are outside to prevent them from hunting or disturbing wild animals. This also keeps our pets safe from harm. I will spend 60 minutes learning about ways to ensure my pet’s behavior and care practices protect local wildlife and their ecosystems.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 2 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Declutter and Donate
Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 3 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Although I didn't choose it as an activity for this challenge, I've been working (slowly) on removing the invasive bamboo from my flower bed. I didn't really realize it what it was when we moved into our house (admittedly, I wasn't paying very much attention to the plants at all), but now that I know, I'm on a mission to dig it out. If you've never attempted this, let me just say, it is HARD WORK. You have to get out ALL of the root parts because even the tiniest root left behind can help it grow back. And in some cases we've had to dig down like 18-24 inches to get the big runners. Anyway, here's my proud face when I pulled out a root that was like three feet long! -

Yesterday I visited a local yarn store for some crochet supplies instead of visiting a large chain. They were SO friendly and helpful, and I'm so glad to have discovered them in my area! They also shared about some activities/meetups they host so I'm hoping to attend one of those soon and further build community!-

Spending a lot of time outside in my yard has made me very curious about what is native vs non-native and invasive. I’m working to clear a flower bed so I can add some pollinator friendly natives!-

In 2023, I started logging my time spent outside through the 1,000 hours outside app. I am so proud of myself, because at the end of March, I noticed that I logged more hours in March 2025 than January - March 2024 combined! Excited to keep up my outdoor time this month!-
Kieran Wade 4/02/2025 8:11 AMOh wow, thanks for bringing this app to my attention! I've been trying to increase my time outdoors this past year and this will be great motivation. Best of luck this month!
