Dana's actions
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Climate + Air
Purchase an energy efficient vehicle
I have a goal to purchase a low-cost, USED, fuel efficient vehicle. I want to do this to save money and energy spent traveling into the office (27 miles) for when I am forced to return to the office later this year instead of being allowed to remain remote. While remote work is better for the environment, I can control what kind of vehicle I purchase and drive. Buying used has less impact.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hours in my community.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Save the BeesWhat did you plant for bees in your area? Please consider uploading a photo!
Dana Lavender 4/22/2024 5:06 AMIt was awesome to learn about all the varieties of bees that live in southern Ohio. I've noticed that we have at least 5-8 of them in my own yard!-
Mehul Menghar 4/22/2024 5:09 AMAbsolutely! Being blessed with bees as the main pollinators of our ecosystem is a true gift. Their vital role in pollination ensures the reproduction of countless plants, supporting our food supply and biodiversity. Let's cherish and protect these remarkable creatures for the well-being of our planet.

Dana Lavender 4/19/2024 11:09 AMWe drove 8 hours one way just to pick up this 25 year old gas sipper! I drove it home and still averaged over 40mpg keeping it floored to get up mountains in West Virginia. I'll be cleaning it up this summer and it will become my "new" office commuter car. -
