Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services to support my community, such as helping someone with a task, tutoring, repairing something, or volunteering my expertise.
Empowering the Next Generation
Mentor a Young Environmental Enthusiast
Guidance helps youth grow their passion for the planet. I will mentor a young person interested in the environment by sharing my knowledge, experiences, and encouragement.
Sustainable Innovation
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn to Choose Forest-Friendly Foods
Our food choices can help protect forests and wildlife. I will spend 10 minutes learning how to choose foods that are grown in ways that protect forests, such as avoiding products linked to deforestation and seeking certified sustainable options like shade-grown coffee or palm oil-free products.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Community and Connection
Share Information about Local Resources
Knowledge of local resources helps communities thrive. I will learn about local resources, especially mutual aid groups, and share them with others on social media, in conversations, or in other ways that help spread the word.
Empowering the Next Generation
Support a School
Schools play a crucial role in youth development and be hubs for sustainability. I will donate funds, time, or supplies to 1 local schools to support environmental education, field trips, sustainability projects, and youth empowerment. I will share how I supported schools on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper Products
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. I will learn about certification labels and buy wood and paper products certified as sustainable or recycled to protect forests and reduce environmental harm.
Wildlife

Kimberly Kinnan 4/07/2025 4:15 PMI am researching natural, compostable dinnerware to be used at our church. This will reduce landfill waste and perhaps get people thinking more about what they throw in the trash each day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat benefits do forests offer you personally? What certifications or labels will you look for when purchasing wood and paper products, and why?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/07/2025 4:12 PMForests offer us places to recreate, to recharge and to appreciate nature. When purchasing wood and paper products I try to find out if sustainable practices are used in harvesting. I also try to use products made in the USA to support our economy and reduce shipping time, distance and resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat did you enjoy most about mentoring a young person, and what impact do you think it had on their growth? Did you have any challenges or ah-hah moments with your mentoring experience?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/07/2025 3:47 PMI am in contact with two young kids that I have taught swim lessons to for years. We are encouraging each other, hope to make a difference in our communities and influence others to be environmentally responsible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/01/2025 2:04 PMIf you have a dog, leaving no trace is very important! Picking up after your pet reduces the spread of disease that can harm wildlife and it certainly makes the hiking, biking, camping, etc. experience much more positive for those coming after you! Also, leave the trail, campsite, boat launch, picnic area cleaner than you found it! Always carry a small trash bag that you can put litter in as you go along. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat did you learn about forest-friendly foods? What sustainable food choices will you commit to making, and why are they important to you?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/01/2025 1:59 PMFoods containing palm oil are accelerating rainforest destruction. Choosing foods that do not contain palm oil will at least reduce that problem a little. Coffee grown sustainably and in greater harmony with the environment reduces environmental impact and is usually good for small farmers as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did expressing gratitude or performing acts of kindness impact you and the recipient? Did anything surprise you about your experience?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/01/2025 1:45 PMPeople need to know they are valued, so take the time to show them that they are! -
Kimberly Kinnan 4/01/2025 1:43 PMLittle things make a big difference! Pick up a little trash in your neighborhood, opt out of a throwaway cup at the coffee shop and don't use produce bags at the grocery! These and so many more small efforts go a long way and believe it or not, people notice!
