    Empowering the Next Generation
What did you enjoy most about mentoring a young person, and what impact do you think it had on their growth? Did you have any challenges or ah-hah moments with your mentoring experience?

    ILAYA KANNAN's avatar
    ILAYA KANNAN 4/15/2025 10:35 AM
I’ve never actually mentored anyone myself, but I can imagine that the experience of mentoring a young person could be incredibly rewarding! There are so many facets to it. I think one of the most enjoyable parts would be seeing the person develop, especially when they have those "aha moments" where things click for them—whether it's gaining new skills, building confidence, or even realizing their own potential. That sense of growth is probably one of the most fulfilling aspects of mentoring.

As for impact, I think a good mentor can help a young person see things from different perspectives, give them tools to solve problems, and help them make decisions that shape their future. It might not always be about solving their problems for them, but more about empowering them to take ownership of their choices.

Challenges, on the other hand, might come from trying to find the right balance between guiding and giving enough space for the mentee to figure things out. Sometimes, mentors might feel like they’re not connecting, or perhaps the mentee isn’t open to certain advice, and that can feel a bit frustrating
