Wildlife

Sites of cultural and spiritual significance hold deep meaning for many communities, particularly Indigenous peoples. I will approach my visit with respect by researching its importance and guidelines beforehand, reflecting on how we can preserve these spaces for future generations.

Environmental and social justice are deeply connected. I will spend 15 minutes learning about how environmental issues affect communities differently (especially communities of color) and explore solutions that promote equity and address both social and environmental challenges.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Advocate For Better Food Packaging

When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.

COMPLETED

Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials

Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.

COMPLETED

I researched and told other about companies such as BioPak which are reducing single-use waste by switching to paper alternatives. This can significantly reduce overall waste and the need for the production of single-use plastics.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I believe that the energy production industry, while obvious, is very crucial to revolutionize. This could significantly reduce all carbon emmisions and extractions of fossil fuels. This can drive how we collect energy moving forward.

    • 2-DAY STREAK
I did research on the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center in Southern Downtown. I learned that this museum was installed here to emphasize many underrepresented areas of San Diego. This area also calls attention to the struggles the Chicano community has had to go through over time. These sites are crucial to protect, support, and understand as they represent a large part of our communities history and can limit the suppression of struggles of marginalized groups.

    • 2-DAY STREAK
I learned that environmental issues impact communities who are less urban significantly more. This is because large cities may not rely directly off of their own crops, but agricultural areas do. This shows that impoverished areas of the world are hit the hardest by climate change, and those who are truly making the impact will feel it later.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Pollinators create all food, and therefore are extremely significant to humans every day. To ensure that I protect pollinators, I can plant more plants for them and I can ensure that I do not use any sort of harmful pesticides in my backyard.

    • 2-DAY STREAK
I learned that tourism, especially in fragile sections of ecosystems, can be very detrimental to native species and plant life. To be more conscious of this, I can research which organizations take the most steps to protect nature when providing their travel service. This can cause a trend to switch to more environmentally-conscious companies.

I felt that I began to focus more on my mind rather than what my body was doing because I was in a still position for so long. I felt it was generally pretty easy to meditate/hold silence.
