COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Food Waste

Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Calculate My Carbon Impact

Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.

COMPLETED

We started our Sunday by son+father going for a 5K run in downtown, and then the entire family went for the daughter's gymnastics showcase in the morning. We hope you walk a long way after dinner. The challenge is almost getting close to an end, and I hope everyone did their little bit to support the earth :)

I am an admin of a Buy Nothing Group where I live. This group is present in almost all cities and the primary nature of the group is to give away things out of one's abundance. You could also ask to borrow or just ask to have something from your community. This builds community and fosters relations. I have given several items from my home, the recent ones being my kids' clothes, books and shoes. Saves from landing into the landfill!

We recently came across a little free library during one of our after-dinner walks, and got a couple of books for my kids to read/borrow. It was a very interesting "thing" to find. So we looked online and realized anyone can do that! It is basically a small wooden box with a post, and you would keep books inside for kids to borrow and read, and return once done. This made us to start thinking about creating one soon!

We explored a couple of parks in our neighborhood. My daughter played on the structure and counted the number of other family's pets as we strolled (coz we don't have one). It dawned onto me, that just spending time in parks for a couple of hours gives so much quality time with the kids.

I felt grateful to know that we live within walking distance of several parks, and keep bumping into our neighbors. It gives me a very small town kind of a feeling!
