Linda's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 20 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Wildlife
Donate to Support Wildlife
There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn to Choose Forest-Friendly Foods
Our food choices can help protect forests and wildlife. I will spend 20 minutes learning how to choose foods that are grown in ways that protect forests, such as avoiding products linked to deforestation and seeking certified sustainable options like shade-grown coffee or palm oil-free products.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 1 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Community and Connection
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 1 people or perform 1 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

Still thinking about my water footprint. I wonder how much water I use when I rinse plastic and aluminum containers for recycling...? It's a tradeoff, I suppose! -

From our very own Cafe Bon Appetit: Great tips on using food scraps to "elevate your cooking"! My own tip for orange, lemon, and lime peels: Toss a few pieces in the garbage disposal to freshen it up naturally. 🍊🍋🍋🟩 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Linda K 4/07/2025 3:42 PMI'm vegetarian but live with an occasional (2 or 3 times/week) meat eater. Our water footprint is low overall, but it would be a *lot* lower without the water used to produce the meat he eats. "Meat water" (yuck) is by far the largest part of our water footprint. Yikes! The good news is that, thanks to my influence (??), he eats much less meat than he used to. Progress.... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

Every year I buy the GGB t-shirt, but this year I'm going to skip it. I definitely don't need another t-shirt (!), and by skipping it I'll also save the fuel that would be burned to deliver it to my house. I'll instead make a direct, monetary donation to one of the t-shirt beneficiaries. It's a tiny change, but tiny changes add up....-

I love this! I actually have talked some Earth Month teams out of giving out t-shirts for this exact reason. Every bit of waste we reduce counts :) plus, you'll get to flex your 'vintage' GGB tees instead of sporting the new ones! -
