Swati's actions
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 15 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Sustainable Innovation
Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials
Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 30 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Community and Connection
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 1 people or perform 1 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Swati Joshi 4/30/2025 5:46 AMGreat experience! I learn new things every year--about myself and about my environment--by participating in the Ecochallenge. And develop good new habits along the way! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?
Swati Joshi 4/27/2025 9:00 AMI already had made the switch to reusable stainless steel K-cups for my coffee machine, but I recently learned that I also need to add a paper liner to these to limit sediment and oils that could be harmful to my heart health. I bought some eco-friendly (unbleached, biodegradable) paper liners and feel better choosing about this more sustainable option. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Swati Joshi 4/27/2025 8:21 AMI enjoyed learning about how to grow herbs indoors, and I’m going to try again (my past attempts have failed miserably). I also will try to revive my struggling aloe vera plant which has outgrown its container and needs to be repotted.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you notice about your thoughts or emotions during or after meditation? Did you find it easy or challenging to meditate?
Swati Joshi 4/25/2025 6:51 AMI've always struggled with meditation, but I've learned that the easiest way for me tune out the brain "noise" is to add breathing exercises to my meditation practice. This focuses my attention on breathing and calms my system at the same time. It's such a great way to start my day--especially since I'm often up before anyone else in my house! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did expressing gratitude or performing acts of kindness impact you and the recipient? Did anything surprise you about your experience?
Swati Joshi 4/22/2025 2:45 PMOne thing I learned is that expressing gratitude has become second nature for me, and it really helps me move forward from challenges with a positive mindset. What surprised me was how difficult it has been for me to perform daily random acts of kindness...because you have to be very intentional about it (and there aren't as many opportunities if you don't interact with others much throughout your day).-
Kerry Keck 4/22/2025 5:25 PMI agree with you about acts of kindness being more of a challenge, and the need to plan actions in that intentional way. So I guess just to say that you aren't alone in this challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingHow did exercising each day impact your physical or mental well-being? What activity did you enjoy most, and why?
Swati Joshi 4/18/2025 8:56 AMI am learning that I enjoy my outdoor walks the most, because they give me an opportunity to practice mindfulness (focusing on all the sounds I hear and wildlife I see). I feel much less stressed after these particular walks than after other exercise, like using my elliptical machine.-
Kieran Wade 4/18/2025 10:33 AMI fully agree with you. I've been finding myself outdoors more and more lately, and taking the time to enjoy the scenery (pollinators and beautiful gardens in my case) has been a great boon to my mood each time!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Swati Joshi 4/07/2025 5:42 AMFood prices are higher than ever, and with that, I'm certain that food insecurity is also on the rise. With greater awareness of the fresh food that goes to waste from my kitchen, I'm resolving to do better and work harder to use what I have before it goes bad. -
Swati Joshi 4/05/2025 6:18 PMI started off the week with some injuries that limited my progress but I’m still striving to complete the daily check-ins! I hope to do better as I heal. Having gratitude and mindfulness as part of my actions definitely is helping my recovery. :)-
