Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 45 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Jeanette Hubbard 4/08/2024 2:33 PMPart of how I reduce my dependence on meat is to use all that I have of it. Bones are kept in the freezer and are made into bone broth that is the basis of soup, anything from french onion, to bean. One chicken provides many meals, if you figure in the broth, and use all the meat as a flavoring instead of the full source of protein.
We have many meals in which the main source of protein is plant based, but does not cause trouble with my meat loving partner because I use broth or small amounts of meat as flavoring.
I also started saving beef fat and make suet cakes with birdseed and suet, with a healthy dose of cayenne powder. The cayenne doesn't effect the birds at all, but it makes it less of an attractant for squirrels and less cute rodents. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Save the BeesWhat did you plant for bees in your area? Please consider uploading a photo!
Samantha Jones 4/08/2024 11:00 AMMy balcony is very shaded, so there isn't a flower that will grow well for the pollenators. I do have a variety of leafy plans and ferns on my balcony. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Cooking Oil DisposalDid anything about this action surprise you? Do you use more or less oil than you thought?
Samantha Jones 4/08/2024 10:56 AMI cook with as little oil as I can. When I cook foods like Bacon, i clean and reuse the oil.
