Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 15 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Advocate for Green Spaces
Green spaces improve air quality, support wildlife, and enhance well-being. I will call or write 2 public officials per day to advocate for more green spaces around my town, particularly in neighborhoods that currently lack equitable access to green spaces such as parks and gardens.
Community and Connection
Support Local Businesses
Supporting local businesses helps keep communities vibrant and resilient. I will choose to shop at 2 local businesses or restaurants, with a focus on businesses owned by people of color, local farmers, or community members.
Community and Connection
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community and Connection
Learn About the Connection Between Social and Environmental Justice
Environmental and social justice are deeply connected. I will spend 10 minutes learning about how environmental issues affect communities differently (especially communities of color) and explore solutions that promote equity and address both social and environmental challenges.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 2 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:37 PMI put together an emergency kit with essentials like water, first aid supplies, and important documents, and I updated my emergency plan with evacuation routes and contact information. A helpful tip I found was to check the Red Cross website for disaster preparedness guides and checklists to ensure I didn't miss anything important. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat product did you replace, and why was it important to you? How do you feel about making a small change for a healthier, more sustainable home?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:35 PMI replaced chemical air fresheners with essential oil diffusers because I learned they release harmful toxins into the air. Making this small change feels good because it’s healthier for my home and better for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWho is most affected by environmental degration or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected? What actions can you take to support those affected by these issues?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:32 PMLow-income and minority communities are most affected by pollution and a lack of green space, which can harm their health. I can help by speaking up, supporting local clean-up efforts, and pushing for more green areas.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:25 PMThe most rewarding part was when my friend told me, "I understand why you're always at this beach." I always feel a little bit disconnected from my friends being the only one that doesn't live in Clairemont or PB, so getting to share my community with them and them actually enjoying it meant alot to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about the businesses or owners you supported? How does shopping locally contribute to a more vibrant and resilient community?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:19 PMOne of the places I visited was a Poke shop in OB. This was actually the first poke shop I had tried years ago when poke became my favorite food, so I really enjoyed supporting them. I found out they are a family-owned business, and their website is cool! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about the ways environmental issues impact communities differently, and how has it changed your perspective? What actions can you take to support both social and environmental justice in your community?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 10:14 PMI learned that environmental issues often hit low-income and minority communities the hardest, and that it’s not just by accident, it’s built into systems and policies. It made me realize how connected social and environmental justice are, and I can help by staying informed, speaking up, and supporting local efforts for change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 9:54 PMI just put this plant my aunt was getting rid of into a mason jar so the roots can grow in the water. It's a very cute little plant and i added some seashells into the jar for some extra cuteness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat services, benefits, or value do green spaces provide for you and your community? What inspired you to advocate for more green spaces, and what role do you see yourself playing in future efforts to create or protect green spaces?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 9:39 AMGreen spaces give my community a place to connect, stay active, and feel mentally refreshed. I was inspired to advocate for more because many neighborhoods in San Diego don’t have the same access, and I want to help change that by raising awareness and supporting local efforts to create more equitable green areas.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 9:25 AMThis challenge was not very difficult for me. I put my Trader Joe's tote bag, which magically fits everything, in my car and took it down everywhere to avoid having to use a one-time-use bag to carry items. My house also recycles plastic grocery bags by using them as trash bags, so when a single-use bag does come up, we repurpose it.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?
rebekah jolie 4/30/2025 9:21 AMPollinators like bees and butterflies help produce one-third of the food we eat by fertilizing fruits, vegetables, and nuts. To help them thrive, you can plant native flowers, avoid pesticides, and support local farms that protect pollinator habitats.
