Bri's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Conduct a Home Energy Audit
Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 1 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports gardens. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for 1 outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
Share My Why
Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 20 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Community and Connection
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 1 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 30 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 15 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 30 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Vehicle Idling
Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.
Empowering the Next Generation
Enjoy the Environment with Youth
Experiencing nature together builds appreciation and connection. I will spend 30 minutes enjoying an outdoor activity with a young person, such as hiking, visiting a park or nature center, or exploring a trail.

Empowering the Next GenerationHow did spending time outdoors with a young person deepen their appreciation for nature? What did you learn or observe about how youth experience and connect with the natural world?

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you observe or experience while spending time outside, and how did it affect you? How does connecting with nature enhance your physical and mental well-being?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat did you discover during your energy audit that you weren’t aware of before? What steps will you take to reduce energy use, and how will they benefit both the environment and your household?

I would've considered this to be advanced for how much effort I had to put in to get my gas company to give me my therms per month. Once obtained, it was as simple as plugging a few numbers in. The information I received is that Our home energy audit reveals that we're using above-average energy related to similar sized homes with similar occupants in our zip-code. It recommends that we look into ways to reduce our base energy load. This includes energy used on a monthly basis for heating hot water, cooking, lighting, appliances, and electronics. Although this use may vary from month to month, it stays relatively constant throughout the entire year. Our heating and cooling seem to be ok. -

The survey link is blocked by the U.S. Bank network. I want to share I've loved participating. My biggest takeaway is my carbon/water footprint and vehicle idling time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Bri Insley 4/28/2025 8:52 AM- Climate Advocate 🌱
I love plants of all types! Inside and outside. I am trying a hydroponic garden. It's going so well. I love my garden. I love how delicious my food is! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?
Bri Insley 4/28/2025 8:48 AM- Climate Advocate 🌱
We've always been mindful of the dishwasher, however, we had been doing half loads sometime. We're making a conscious effort to run it when it's full. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat product did you replace, and why was it important to you? How do you feel about making a small change for a healthier, more sustainable home?
Bri Insley 4/25/2025 7:55 AM- Climate Advocate 🌱
I have always been into replacing single use plastics or paper products with reusable ones. However, I had yet to make the jump to toilet paper. I MADE THE JUMP. I have reusable toilet paper now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Bri Insley 4/25/2025 7:54 AM- Climate Advocate 🌱
I really wanted to build my son a mud kitchen and I saw an idea online to hang pots and pans for them to use. Instead of going to goodwill or similar, I asked on my local buy nothing and some members of our community had old scratched pans they lent us!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?
Bri Insley 4/22/2025 12:39 PM- Climate Advocate 🌱
There are so many important pieces of information related to leave no trace. My biggest takeaway is whether to disperse or concentrate when traveling.
