Julian's actions

Personal

Meditate

Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 15 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

COMPLETED 21
DAILY ACTIONS

Work and Organizations

Reduce Waste in My Organization

Waste reduction supports both ecological and organizational resilience. I will work with others to conduct a waste audit and reduce waste in my organization, such as paper, plastics, or energy use.

COMPLETED 21
DAILY ACTIONS

Soil and Food

Preserve or Store Food

Preserving food through freezing, drying, or fermenting helps food last longer, reduces waste, and ensures supplies during difficult times. I will preserve or store food during the challenge to strengthen household and community resilience.

Going to the Charles River cleanup with some colleagues today! It’s going to be a good time.

    Work and Organizations
What did you learn from your audit, and what steps did you take to reduce waste? How can reducing waste create both environmental and organizational benefits?

We are reducing the amount of clean blue surgical huck towels that go into the trash (because they're not needed during the surgery) by working collaboratively with our environmental services department to offset waste from the operating rooms and repurpose them through their department. To date we have shared around 3000 units with them.

Finding creative ways to reuse items is a goal I have this month.
