MICHELLE's actions
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Work and Organizations
Reduce Waste in My Organization
Waste reduction supports both ecological and organizational resilience. I will work with others to conduct a waste audit and reduce waste in my organization, such as paper, plastics, or energy use.
Soil and Food
Grow Something to Eat
Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.
Personal
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
What is resilience?
Notice Resilience Around Me
Resilience shows up in many places. I will look for one example of resilience in my surroundings—whether in my community, work, or daily life—and reflect on what it teaches me about adapting to change.
Community
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services that contribute to local self-sufficiency, such as teaching a repair skill or helping with a neighbor's garden.
Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Soil and Food
Learn How to Save Pollinators
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 120 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.
Soil and Food
Share or Donate Surplus Food
Sharing surplus food not only prevents waste but also strengthens social safety nets. I will donate or share 10 meals or food items through a food bank, community fridge, or with neighbors to support food security and resilience.
Community
Connect with Someone
Strong communities are built on connection and trust. I will reach out to 6 others—friends, colleagues, or neighbors—to check in, have a meaningful conversation, offer support, or to meet someone new near me.
Community
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
MICHELLE HUGGINS 4/23/2026 5:27 AMWell, it made me realize that I can still get clean taking a shorter shower without staying in the shower for over ten minutes. Last year during the Ecochallenge I started turning off the water while brushing my teeth and I have kept that habit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow did reaching out strengthen your connection with friends, colleagues, or neighbors? In what ways do these personal connections build resilience in your community?
MICHELLE HUGGINS 4/21/2026 4:03 AMI had a girlfriend whom I hadn't seen in at least 5 years stop by over the weekend. She moved to Chicago from Indy and we hadn't kept in touch on a regular basis. Even though we hadn't seen or talked to each other our friendship has withstood the distance. We laughed and talked as if we had never been apart. This shows the resilience of friendship and how a true friendship withstands the test of time and long distance.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
MICHELLE HUGGINS 4/20/2026 4:20 AMThe most rewarding part of hosting a gathering is actually bringing people together!! It's always so good to see people that you haven't seen in awhile. Sharing a drink or a meal along with good conversation is the one of the best parts of getting together.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What example of resilience did you notice? How does observing resilience in your surroundings change how you think about adapting to change?
MICHELLE HUGGINS 4/14/2026 7:53 AMMy next door neighbor has been having some health issues. He had a tumor at the base of his brain and doctors could not be absolutely sure surgery would be successful. After 8 months he had the surgery and it was a success!!! He is now trying to get back to normal. I can't think of a better example of resilience!!-
