Shelly's actions
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Mulching helps soil hold water and reduces runoff. I will mulch the base of trees or other plants at home, school, or in my community to improve water retention and soil health.
Personal
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 15 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Donate to Support Wildlife
There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.
Soil and Food
Grow Something to Eat
Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.
Water
Create My Own Water Action
Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.
Personal
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Water
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports local needs. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Soil and Food
Learn How to Save Pollinators
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 15 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 20 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat did you decide to grow, and how did it feel to start (or care for) your plants? What connections did it give you to soil or food resilience?
Shelly Hudson 4/01/2026 5:20 PMA few months ago I had a spaghetti squash. I saved the seeds and after soaking them for a few days, I let them dry out and then planted in my underused garden. Being in Arizona and already exceeding records for early heat, I was pleasantly surprised they even sprouted, let alone have been growing for about 4 weeks. I am hopeful that I will get at least one squash for my efforts! (Last time I used purchased seeds which grew fantastically, had blooms and a long vine. But my dogs got into it one night and ate it all down to the stem). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalHow did exercising each day impact your physical and mental resilience? What activities helped you feel stronger, more flexible, or more capable of adapting?
Shelly Hudson 4/01/2026 5:13 PMDue to chronic disease, I need to stretch and do physical therapy each morning just to get out of bed. Additional stretching is needed throughout the day. Not only is it necessary for me to move, but it also helps set my day up for success as I meditate/focus on the movements and doing them correctly, for the most benefit both mentally and physically. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalHow did improving your sleep affect your energy, focus, or mood? What role does rest play in helping you feel more balanced and capable of handling challenges?
Shelly Hudson 4/01/2026 5:08 PMBy turning off my notifications and stop scrolling 15 mins prior to bedtime, it gives my brain time to calm down from all the distractions. I restart my phone and choose a meditative sleep ap to play as I fall asleep. Usually I am out cold within a few minutes, giving me a peaceful and rejuvenate nights rest. (There are many free aps on YouTube to choose from).
