Tabitha's actions

Land, Water, and Air

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Empowering the Next Generation

Enjoy the Environment with Youth

Experiencing nature together builds appreciation and connection. I will spend 15 minutes enjoying an outdoor activity with a young person, such as hiking, visiting a park or nature center, or exploring a trail.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Learn to Be a Responsible Pet Owner

Being a responsible pet owner means minimizing the impact pets have on wildlife by keeping them indoors, never setting them 'free' into nature, and supervising pets when they are outside to prevent them from hunting or disturbing wild animals. This also keeps our pets safe from harm. I will spend 10 minutes learning about ways to ensure my pet’s behavior and care practices protect local wildlife and their ecosystems.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Keep My Community Clean

A clean community benefits everyone. Each day I am outside, I will pick up 10 pieces of litter to keep my community clean.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Sustainable Innovation

Conduct a Plastics Audit

Reducing plastic use starts with awareness, and there are amazing innovations in materials to replace plastic! I will conduct an audit of the plastic products I use daily and identify items I can replace with sustainable alternatives.

2025 Eco Challenge had been a wonderful addition to my daily routine! My daughter and I pick up any litter we see every morning walking the dog on the way to her bus and talk about the environment around us. From the sandhill cranes that took up nesting down by the park to discussing what we can plant to help out native pollinators I'm really grateful for this challenge and the impact it has had on us. I look forward to continuing these habits throughout and getting the rest of my family on board!

While walking the dog at Sunnyvale Park we went around and picked up some wrappers and scraps by the playground area to help prevent wildlife from scavenging. We do this regularly each week to help keep our local public space clean and happy!

I already keep my dog on a short leash in wooded areas, however we haven't done a long hike yet and it was good to brush up on proper procedure for feeding pets out in public and wild areas.

I was most surprised to find the majority of our water use was virtual or due to our meat consumption. It's nice to know there are other things I can do to offset water use that is unavoidable such as having to drive to work due to distance from office.
