Emily's actions
Personal
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
What is resilience?
Learn About Ordinary Magic
Resilience is an everyday magic in all of us. I will spend 10 minutes learning about resilience and psychologist Ann Masten’s concept of “ordinary magic,” which shows how people adapt and thrive through small, daily strengths.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Leave the Leaves
Fallen leaves, logs, and brush provide shelter and food for wildlife. I will leave natural features in my yard or community space to help strengthen biodiversity and soil resilience.
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Soil and Food
Choose Water-Smart Foods
The foods we eat carry hidden “water footprints” that affect rivers, soils, and communities worldwide. I will reduce servings of high-water-use foods and choose alternatives that help conserve water and support more resilient food systems.
Water
Learn to Recycle Water at Home
Greywater—or lightly used household water—can sometimes be reused for tasks like watering plants or cleaning. I will learn about safe and practical ways to recycle greywater at home, school, or work.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat safe, practical ways did you find to reuse water? How did it feel to see value in something you might normally discard?
Emily Henderson 4/02/2026 4:07 PMI don't typically have plastic water bottles, but it makes sense to use the leftovers if left in a car on plants or cleaning. I also hadn't thought about using rice/pasta water to water the lawn. It would be cool to be able to have a grey water system one day -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What stood out to you about the idea of “ordinary magic”? How can one use a small, everyday strength to better handle a challenge this week?
Emily Henderson 4/02/2026 4:05 PMI like the idea of ordinary magic as humans in general are driven to adapt and thrive despite adversity. An everyday strength to help better handle a challenge this week is keeping a positive routine whether that includes meditating, exercise and being patient when things fall of course. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat foods did you discover have a large water footprint? How might shifting your diet help conserve both water and soil health?
Emily Henderson 4/02/2026 3:50 PMProcessed foods like potato chips and beef that has been finished in feed lots have large water footprints. I realize eating less meat would help conserve water and soil health and will make an effort to cut back and bring this up to my family. Crazy to see a calculated water footprint. I know mine said average but for that to be average is pretty mind boggling.
