Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Plastic in Clothing and Water
Synthetic clothing can contain plastic and shed harmful microplastics into our water. I will use a microplastics catcher in my laundry, or install a microplastics filter for my washing machine.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 15 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Rhonda Harvey 4/24/2024 11:56 AMPicking up refuse makes me care more and express my opinion to and about people and things which cause the issue. One thing is the fact we have open recycling containers which wind will blow the garbage out of. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Rhonda Harvey 4/24/2024 11:54 AMMain local Canadian issues seem to be from Mercury , photomirex, PBC and Dioxin contamination. The provinces monitor lakes, rivers, and streams and advises regarding consumption accordingly. These are all considered when we eat fish, as well as other international recommendations. -
Rhonda Harvey 4/24/2024 11:45 AMI am discussing with as many people as I can about various eco issues to spread the word about initiatives and get their thoughts on this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Rhonda Harvey 4/05/2024 11:20 AMWe have decided to not buy souvenirs, and we are reducing the number of gifts we buy, and other buying for us. If we do buy gifts they will generally be live flowers, and environmentally friendly products -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Plastic in Clothing and WaterHow did you try to catch the release of microplastics in your laundry? What did you learn in the process?
Rhonda Harvey 4/05/2024 11:16 AMUnfortunately I couldn't find a good inexpensive micro-plastic catcher here in Canada. I read up on the Cora Ball, and found it only removed about 35% of the plastic, but some is better than nothing. However, my having one of these catchers doesn't help the ocean as I am on a Septic system. So I am putting aside this goal for now.
