Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
What is resilience?
Learn About Ordinary Magic
Resilience is an everyday magic in all of us. I will spend 10 minutes learning about resilience and psychologist Ann Masten’s concept of “ordinary magic,” which shows how people adapt and thrive through small, daily strengths.
Soil and Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals meals each day.
Personal
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Soil and Food
Grow Something to Eat
Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.

McKenzie Harrod 4/15/2026 10:57 AMI spent this time noticing my own resilience. We all have different battles we are facing some larger than other but giving myself the time to notice my ability to build after some very impactful hurts has given me more courage to continue to move forward with my head held high. -
McKenzie Harrod 4/15/2026 10:54 AMToday we enjoyed black bean burgers. I was initially skeptical, but they were AMAZING. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat did you decide to grow, and how did it feel to start (or care for) your plants? What connections did it give you to soil or food resilience?
McKenzie Harrod 4/15/2026 10:53 AMMy family and I have decided to start growing lettuce and various other vegetables such as carrots and potatoes. This really gives me a sense of belonging as it gives me the opportunity to provide fresh and nutritious food for my family. -
McKenzie Harrod 4/15/2026 10:50 AMWhile this goal may have seem easy at first it is actually more challenging than I thought. I noticed that the more sugar I was eating the more I wanted. Cutting back was actually a process. I have attempted to cut back on sugar a few times before but have been less aware of my thought process and how just one dessert can cause a downhill spiral for me. However, I am hoping that with more awareness of myself and patterns refined sugar can be a thing of that past! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat meal did you enjoy the most, and what alternatives did you try? Did anything surprise you about how satisfying plant-based options can be?
McKenzie Harrod 4/08/2026 9:23 AMMy family and I enjoyed a delicious meal of black bean veggie burgers and a nice green salad. I find that when I eat more greens and meatless alternatives my body feels lighter. I really enjoy exploring alternative foods that my body enjoys! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What stood out to you about the idea of “ordinary magic”? How can one use a small, everyday strength to better handle a challenge this week?

I like that idea of a "small, everyday strength." Tonight for my resilience journal action, I wrote about challenges I faced today and the strengths I used to respond to them. Everyday strengths!
