Azura's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Endangered Species
Wildlife and biodiversity play an important role on our planet and are being threatened each year. I will spend 10 minutes each day learning about the current status of local or global wildlife and how I can align my actions to support their livelihood.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Azura Grende 4/21/2024 12:52 PMI did not know that this resource existed until it was assigned in one of my courses at PCC and I am finding this network to be incredibly interesting. The reason that I choose my challenges is because I thought that would be usefully tasks for my life and since signing up for these tasks I have been changing my daily behaviors.-
Kim Smith 4/25/2024 3:18 PMThat is great to hear, Azura! I love that the Fall and Spring Ecochallenges align with our classes. It seems to make a difference for a lot of students, so I am glad that you are finding all of the resources interesting!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Go Plastic-FreeWhere did plastic show up on your life that surprised you the most? What plastic alternative products did you discover you may switch to?
Azura Grende 4/21/2024 12:47 PMI don't think the amount of plastic that I receive in one order of to go food is too much. From plastic forks to the the containers. I think that from now on I will take the initiative to either cook more food at home or bring my own containers for restaurants. Also plastic bags are being used everywhere when paper bags or reusable bags are better options. -
Azura Grende 4/20/2024 11:47 AMI think that these challenges put perspective on my own use of single use plastics and how through preparing myself and making choices I can avoid them somewhat easily. I think that this has been a great learning experience.
