Julie's actions
Action Track
Participate in a Habitat Restoration Project
Healthy habitats support resilient wildlife populations. I will join 1 restoration efforts, such as planting native plants, cleaning a natural area, or repairing trails to protect biodiversity.
Water
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports local needs. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
Personal
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Community
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community
Take Part in a Community Beautification Project
Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 2 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Mulching helps soil hold water and reduces runoff. I will mulch the base of trees or other plants at home, school, or in my community to improve water retention and soil health.
Water
Create My Own Water Action
Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Community
Join a Group
Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.
Soil and Food
Learn About Sustainable Farming Practices
Healthy soils and resilient food systems depend on how we grow food. I will spend 10 minutes learning about farming practices such as regenerative agriculture, agroecology, or permaculture, and reflect on how they support both people and the planet.
Soil and Food
Choose Water-Smart Foods
The foods we eat carry hidden “water footprints” that affect rivers, soils, and communities worldwide. I will reduce servings of high-water-use foods and choose alternatives that help conserve water and support more resilient food systems.
Action Track
Clean Up Waterways Near You
Healthy waterways are essential for resilience. I will volunteer for 10 hours to clean or protect local rivers, lakes, wetlands, or coastal areas to support ecosystems and communities.
Action Track
Plant Trees
Trees are vital for resilience, storing carbon, sheltering biodiversity, and protecting water and soil. I will plant 10 trees in my yard, community, or through a local project to help ecosystems adapt and thrive.
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
Share My Why
Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Work and Organizations
Map Local Risks and Resources
Preparedness is part of resilience. I will spend 20 minutes with colleagues identifying potential risks (such as weather, supply chain, or staffing issues) and the resources or strategies available to address them.
What is resilience?
Share a Definition of Resilience
Sharing builds common understanding. I will share 5 definitions of resilience that resonate with me—through conversations, social media, or the event feed—to help others explore what resilience means.
What is resilience?
Share a Resilience Story
Stories connect and inspire us. I will share 2 resilience stories—either from my life, my community, or from a leader or culture I admire—through conversations, social media, or the event feed to help others see resilience in action.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Donate to Support Wildlife
There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.
Work and Organizations
Join or Start a Green Team
Green teams strengthen resilience by creating shared responsibility. I will join or help start a green team in my workplace, school, or community group to support sustainability and collaboration.

it has been very hard to keep up and keep track this year, but every step helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow did joining a group make you feel more connected or supported? Why do you think belonging to a group helps people face challenges more effectively?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 8:41 PMHaving more people achieving the same goal helps the work go faster and makes it more enjoyable -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you notice about how mulching helps the soil and plants? How does this small action connect to bigger ideas of water resilience?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 8:39 PM- Foodie 🍱
helped a neighbor mulch their gardens. they have not had to water as often as last year, even with it being drier this year
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat community activity did you join, and how did it make you feel connected to others? How do projects like this strengthen your community over time?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 8:30 PM- Foodie 🍱
a group of us started a street beautification project, where we pick not so main roads and clean the trash and "plant" wildflowers to make the drive more enjoyable

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat project or organization did you choose to support, and why did it resonate with you? What are some ways you can continue to support wildlife conservation beyond financial contributions?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 3:48 PM- Foodie 🍱
Defenders of Wildlife works on the ground, in the courts, and on Capitol Hill to protect and restore imperiled wildlife and habitats across North America. Together, we can ensure a future for the wildlife and wild places we all love. When wildlife is in danger, they can't speak up for themselves—so we speak for them. Defenders of Wildlife deploys a wide range of tools and tactics, from policy analyses and advocacy, to litigation, innovative science and technology programs and field conservation. Every Defenders program aligns with or contributes to at least one of three broad imperatives:
- Prevent species and their habitats from becoming imperiled.
- Protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats.
- Restore the health of vulnerable species and their habitats.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhich farming or soil practice did you find most inspiring, and why? How could these approaches help farmers and communities adapt to future challenges?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 3:43 PM- Foodie 🍱
Regenerative Agriculture - actively restore soil health, shifts the focus from simply reducing harm (sustainability) to actively improving the ecosystem.
- Resilience to Extreme Weather (Drought/Flood): Regenerative soils act like sponges. High organic matter improves water retention by up to 20 times its weight in water, helping crops survive drought and reducing flooding damage during heavy rains.
- Reduced Input Costs & Increased Profitability: By eliminating synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (which can represent 15-25% of costs for farmers), regenerative systems are often more profitable and less dependent on rising fossil fuel prices.
- Carbon Sequestration: Regenerative practices can turn farms into net carbon sinks, with agroforestry having the potential to sequester significant amounts of carbon annually.
- Biodiversity & Natural Pest Management: By fostering beneficial insects and soil microbes, farmers reduce the need for chemicals, lowering the risk of chemical-resistant pests.
- Enhanced Livelihoods & Food Security:

REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat foods did you discover have a large water footprint? How might shifting your diet help conserve both water and soil health?
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 3:39 PM- Foodie 🍱
Beef, almonds, walnuts, cashews, chocolate, coffee and cheese have some of the largest water footprints.
During the month i shifted our diet to include less meat and more legumes, traded processed foods for homemade, -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction TrackWhat kind of tree did you choose, and why? Where did you plant it? Be sure to share a pic of your new tree in the feed!
Julie Gore 4/27/2026 3:20 PM- Foodie 🍱
i had planted a few pine saplings here and there along my clean up walks. Unfortunately the city mowed a few of them over even though they were in "protected area". So i will be grabbing some more to try again-
