Exploring my community more deeply has definitely changed the way I view my surroundings. At first, it felt like I was just passing through my town, only noticing what I needed to get from one place to another. But by slowing down and visiting more local spots, I began to feel more connected to the people and the history here.

Health and Well-Being
Share a Health or Well-being Resource
Sharing knowledge helps others nurture their well-being. Through social media, in the Ecochallenge feed, or in conversations, I will share 2 health or well-being resources with friends, family, or my community to promote a healthier, more resilient world.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Emergency Preparedness
Being prepared can save lives during extreme weather. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the most common weather risks in my area and the steps I can take to stay safe, such as signing up for local alerts or identifying nearby shelters.
Empowering the Next Generation
Conduct an Audit with a Young Person
Learning by doing empowers youth. I will conduct an environmental audit — such as a home energy or waste audit — alongside a young person to teach them practical sustainability skills and see what I learn from them as well.
Empowering the Next Generation
Learn about a Young Leader
Young people are making a big impact on the world. I will spend 10 minutes learning about a young leader working on environmental or social justice issues to get inspired and share their story on social media or the Ecochallenge feed.
Health and Well-Being
Explore Resources for Managing Anxiety
Anxiety can be overwhelming, but resources and strategies can help. I will spend 30 minutes exploring resources that help manage anxiety and stress to support my mental and psychological well being.
Empowering the Next Generation
Listen to Youth
Youth voices matter and deserve to be heard. I will spend 10 minutes actively listening to and learning from young people about concerns, ideas, or experiences about environmental issues, either through conversations, speeches, or media.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 1 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat new places or experiences did you discover in your local area? How has exploring your community changed your perspective or sense of connection?
Julia Gojar 4/04/2025 1:58 AMI started to explore some smaller, independent coffee shops and restaurants that I’d never noticed before. A few of them have unique local vibes, offering everything from creative pastries to handcrafted beverages. Some of these places have become favorite spots to hang out, whether for a quiet afternoon or to meet up with friends.
Exploring my community more deeply has definitely changed the way I view my surroundings. At first, it felt like I was just passing through my town, only noticing what I needed to get from one place to another. But by slowing down and visiting more local spots, I began to feel more connected to the people and the history here. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Julia Gojar 4/04/2025 1:30 AMPreparing for extreme weather events requires a combination of planning, supplies, and knowledge. Here are a few key steps I took (and would recommend others take) to ensure safety and preparedness:
1. Stock up on non-perishable food and water for at least 72 hours (per person). I always keep canned goods, energy bars, and bottled water on hand.
2. A basic first-aid kit is essential. I added extra prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and sanitizing supplies.
3. I reviewed the best evacuation routes and made sure all family members know where to go in an emergency. Keep a list of important phone numbers in case cell service is down.
One of the most useful things I learned is to prepare ahead of time rather than waiting for the event to happen. That way, when extreme weather strikes, I can focus on staying safe rather than scrambling for supplies. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat did you and the young person learn from conducting the audit together, and how did it change their understanding of sustainability? Did anything change about your understanding of sustainability?
Julia Gojar 4/04/2025 1:19 AMAs for me, engaging in the audit with them might have deepened my understanding of sustainability by highlighting the practical challenges and opportunities people encounter in trying to live more sustainably. It would emphasize that sustainability isn’t just an ideal but something that needs continual reflection, action, and adaptation. It could also make me more aware of the importance of educating others on sustainable practices, especially the younger generation, who can make a significant impact in the future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat resource or strategy stood out to you the most, and how might it help in managing anxiety?
Julia Gojar 4/03/2025 5:01 AMOne strategy that really stands out to me is mindful breathing techniques, particularly the practice of box breathing. Box breathing is a simple, structured breathing method where you inhale for a count of four, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four. It’s a form of focused breathing that can immediately bring a sense of calm and is very effective in managing anxiety in the moment.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat new information did you learn about the weather risks in your area, and how has it changed the way you think about emergency preparedness?
Julia Gojar 4/03/2025 4:59 AMI recently learned about the growing risk of extreme weather events in many areas due to climate change specifically, how regions that were historically less prone to certain types of weather (like wildfires, flooding, or severe storms) are now facing more frequent and intense events. This new information has definitely changed the way I think about emergency preparedness. It’s clear that, even if your area hasn’t faced certain risks in the past, it’s wise to assume that no region is entirely safe from these evolving weather patterns.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat resource did you share, and how do you think it could help others? How does sharing knowledge about well-being strengthen your relationships or community?
Julia Gojar 4/03/2025 4:52 AMOne resource I recently shared is a mindfulness meditation app, specifically one that offers guided sessions focused on stress reduction, emotional well-being, and mental clarity. I believe it can help others by providing a practical tool to manage the pressures of daily life, reduce anxiety, and enhance overall mental health.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWho is the young leader you learned about, and what at inspired you most about them? How can you support or amplify the work of young leaders in your own community?
Julia Gojar 4/02/2025 11:44 PMLately I saw a kid who was selling and offering his merchandise to other people. It was just inspiring because nowadays other kids are onto cellphones and gadgets. Offering guidance or advice, especially if I have experience in areas that could benefit them, can be a way to help young leaders grow their impact while fostering the next generation of changemakers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat perspectives or ideas did you hear from young people, and how did they challenge or expand your understanding of environmental issues? Did anything surprise you that they had to say?
Julia Gojar 4/02/2025 11:28 PMPlanning events like green initiatives and reorganizing tree planting. These events help me to understand the importance of preserving natural resources. That surprise me because nowadays there are still young people who are innovative.
