Land, Water, and Air

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Food Waste

Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

    Forest-friendly foods
are those that are produced in ways that protect and preserve forest ecosystems. Here are some key insights:

    1. Palm Oil: Found in many household products, palm oil production often leads to deforestation. Choosing products with sustainably sourced palm oil can help reduce this impact.
    2. Wild Forest Foods: Forests provide a variety of nutritious foods like nuts, fruits, honey, and bushmeat, which are crucial for many rural communities.
    3. Sustainable Agriculture: Practices like agroforestry, where trees are integrated into agricultural systems, can enhance biodiversity and soil health.

    Sustainable food choices
I would commit to making include:

    1. Plant-Based Diet: Incorporating more plant-based foods like lentils, beans, and vegetables, which have lower environmental impacts compared to animal products.
    2. Local and Seasonal Produce: Choosing locally grown and seasonal fruits and vegetables to reduce transportation emissions and support local farmers
      5
      .
    3. Organic Options: Opting for organic produce to avoid synthetic pesticides and improve soil health
      5
      .

    Importance
    :

    • Environmental Impact: These choices help reduce deforestation, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and promote biodiversity.
    • Health Benefits: Plant-based diets and organic foods are often healthier and can improve overall well-being.
    • Community Support: Supporting local farmers and sustainable practices strengthens community resilience and economic stability.

By making these sustainable food choices, we can contribute to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future. 🌍🌱
