sarah's actions
Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Plastic in Clothing and Water
Synthetic clothing can contain plastic and shed harmful microplastics into our water. I will use a microplastics catcher in my laundry, or install a microplastics filter for my washing machine.

sarah glover 4/29/2024 9:24 AMI'm really glad I chose the challenge about dishwasher efficiency. I spent some time reading through articles about modern dishwashers actually work better if you scrape the food off rather than pre-rinse. As I work towards shifting this lifelong habit, I'm excited to see if our water bill is also noticeably reduced.
