  • Reflection Question
    Industry Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:54 AM
Single use items I regularly use include paper napkins.  I can substitute that for cloth napkins that can be washed and reused.
  • Reflection Question
Industry Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:53 AM
I can express my personality and creativity in re-using the same clothes and accessories I have in a different way.  For example, a long sleeved dress can be cut to become a spring dress.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Go by Bike
How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:50 AM
It makes me feel great!  Not only does it give me an opportunity to enjoy the outside (the air and weather) but I get to exercise as well.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:49 AM
Yes, my transportation choices affect my engagement with my community.  I prefer to walk compared to driving because it's easier than dealing with traffic sometimes.  However, due to the weather and the walking paths not always being shaded, I may opt to drive.  Also, it depends on the time I have and the distance of where I need to go.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:47 AM
Access to various kinds of transportation throughout my life has influenced my current attitude because I need/like convenience.   In past cities I've lived in, when public transportation was easy to access I didn't mind using it.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:45 AM
With the recent changes due to Covid-19, I can take/do virtual meetings.  It's now become more acceptable and can help with flying less.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:38 AM
Steps I can take to reduce my electricity usage includes turning off lights when not in use, unplugging appliances that aren't used everyday (or often), and keeping my AC higher when no one is home.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:36 AM
No, I had not heard of biomass technology.  What surprised me was the amount of space that is needed.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:32 AM
I'm not sure I would consider it inspiration but the reason I act on sustainable energy and other energy issues is because it's important for me today (my health and environment) and for the future.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

    Stephanie George's avatar
    Stephanie George 4/30/2021 10:30 AM
Factors that influence my choice of transportation is convenience, safety, and cost.  What would need to change for me to opt to more climate-friendly options include closer access to a train.  More comfortable "waiting" locations for transportation (ex. bus stops).
