Take the Veg Pledge!
Eating a plant-based diet is one of the most impactful (and delicious) ways to reduce your environmental footprint. Follow the link below to join WSP's week-long Veg Pledge and eat vegetarian or vegan from 22-28 April. Take it one step further and host a plant-based pot-luck in your office during April!
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Action Track: Community

No More Plastic Forks
Clean your house out of mismatched dinner cutlery. Bring in reusable metal/ stainless steel dinner cutlery (forks, spoons, knives) to donate to the WSP café in your office. Use the new cutlery to achieve the daily action of reducing plastic use during lunch.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 10 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 15 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Beauty and Personal Products
Beauty and personal products can create a lot of waste. I will spend 15 minutes learning about the beauty and body products I use to see if they are refillable or recyclable. If not, I will reach out to the manufacturer to advocate for those options.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Climate + Air
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel? What results did you see? Please consider posting a photo of your cleanup!
Elaine Gamolo 4/30/2024 12:06 PMFor the past couple of years, I have been involved with a company sponsored clean up event in collaboration with the Hudson Riverkeeper - the Riverkeeper Sweep. Our next sweep is this Saturday. Working with others to clean up the community feels very rewarding, but it also eye-opening. It is always surprising to see how much litter lines our waterfronts, both small and large scale. From hundreds and hundreds of bottlecaps to tires and more, every bit we pick up makes a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Beauty and Personal ProductsWhat new insights did you gain about the skincare products you use? Did you reach out to advocate for refillable or recyclable packaging?
Elaine Gamolo 4/30/2024 12:03 PMI learned that some of the products I use are advertised as clean or vegan. I also learned that Sephora and Ulta offer, or will offer, a means of recycling empty cosmetic containers. I've started to take into consideration buying bulk or the larger sizer products and refilling my regular or mini size versions instead of buying multiple regular-size items. I've done this for moisturizer, soaps, and conditioners. -
Elaine Gamolo 4/30/2024 11:52 AMWanted to share that I went thrift shopping the other day and was able to get a hand on some nice, hefty glassware for my apartment, as well as some secondhand children's books for my niece and nephew. Love being able to outfit my home with secondhand and unique pieces. Thrift shopping, Buy Nothing facebook groups, and other means of secondhand are a great way to find items, rather than buying new.-
Marcia Booth 4/30/2024 11:59 AMWhat I also enjoy is making things from materials I have - glass jars and glass yogurt containers. Great candle holders, plant starters, snack dishes! So many things to use and just get creative :-)
