Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 30 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 30 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Health and Well-Being
Declutter and Donate
Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 120 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

Daily exercise has had a tremendously positive impact on both my physical and mental well-being. Physically, regular activity has improved my stamina, strength, and overall energy levels, making everyday tasks feel easier and more enjoyable. Mentally, exercise has been a great stress-reliever, boosting my mood and providing mental clarity and focus. The activity I enjoyed the most was walking. There's something incredibly rejuvenating about a simple walk, whether it's through a park, along a beach, or just around the neighborhood. Walking allows me to clear my mind, enjoy the fresh air, and take in my surroundings. It's a gentle yet effective form of exercise that can be easily incorporated into my routine. Plus, it offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature or have peaceful moments of reflection. -

One way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors is by packing out all your trash, including biodegradable items. By bringing reusable containers and using eco-friendly products, you minimize waste that could harm wildlife and natural habitats. This simple action helps preserve the beauty and health of outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain pristine and enjoyable for future visitors. By leading by example, you also inspire others to adopt environmentally responsible habits, creating a collective effort toward environmental conservation. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?

Tourism can have profound impacts on wildlife, as evidenced by the Philippine tarsier, a tiny, nocturnal primate native to the Philippines with dwindling populations due to habitat degradation and exploitative tourism practices. During our visit to Bohol, we learned the importance of being responsible tourists by maintaining a respectful distance from tarsiers and supporting eco-friendly tours that prioritize conservation. With only 5,000 to 10,000 tarsiers left, our conscious travel choices, such as keeping a safe distance and supporting conservation-focused operators, can significantly contribute to their well-being and preservation. By committing to responsible tourism, we can help ensure that future generations have the opportunity to marvel at these incredible creatures in their natural habitats. -

- 16-DAY STREAK
The Philippine tarsier is a tiny, nocturnal primate native to the Philippines, renowned for its large eyes and bat-like ears. As one of the world's smallest primates, they measure around 4.5 to 5 inches in length and weigh just between 4 and 5 ounces. These remarkable creatures are primarily insectivorous, feeding on insects, spiders, lizards, and small birds, and are known for their agility as leapers, capable of jumping long distances between trees.During our visit to Bohol, we were guided on how to be responsible tourists, including the importance of maintaining a respectful distance from the tarsiers and honoring their need for personal space. With only 5,000 to 10,000 tarsiers left in the Philippines, and the International Primate Protection League emphasizing their dwindling numbers due to low birth rates, exploitative tourism, and habitat degradation from logging and mining, our actions can make a significant difference.
By choosing eco-friendly tours and destinations that prioritize conservation and animal welfare, we help protect these precious species and their habitats. Responsible tourism practices, such as keeping a safe distance from wildlife and supporting conservation-focused operators, can significantly contribute to the well-being and preservation of tarsiers.
Let’s all commit to responsible tourism to ensure that future generations can marvel at these incredible creatures, preserving their natural habitats and ensuring their survival.
