Belen's actions

Personal

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 45 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Take the Pre-Survey

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

What is resilience?

Learn About Ecological Resilience

Resilience is part of how nature works. I will spend 30 minutes learning about ecological resilience—how ecosystems adapt to disturbances and renew themselves through cycles of growth and renewal.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal

Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep

Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 30 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.

COMPLETED 7
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal

Reduce Refined Sugar

Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Leave the Leaves

Fallen leaves, logs, and brush provide shelter and food for wildlife. I will leave natural features in my yard or community space to help strengthen biodiversity and soil resilience.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Soil and Food

Learn How to Save Pollinators

Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 15 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Community

Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 2 people or perform 2 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal

Go Get a Check Up

Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.

I left leaves in my yard. The wildlife I believe are benefiting from this action are the overwintering insects since the leaves provide a source of shelter. Although small, this simple act helps boost my local ecosystem's biodiversity.

I also learned that fireflies use fall leaves as a habitat! and 1 in 3 firefly species are endangered

I believe expressing gratitude or performing acts of kindness creates a ripple effect that then fosters a sense of connection for both the giver and receiver. These small gestures are vital in building stronger communities by cultivating a supportive and compassionate environment. This activity was a reminder of how simple it can be to make a positive impact.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I have found that as I continue to exercise, my physical and mental resilience builds (as long as i am getting proper rest).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now? What was the most challenging part of reducing refined sugar, and how did you overcome it?

    • Pet Parent 🐾
Reducing refined sugar has been a challenge because it is in a lot of the food around me. I have overcome this challenge by planning my meals ahead of time and incorporating options with little to no sugar.

I learned that pollinators are incredibly important for growing a lot of the food we eat. They help plants produce fruits, vegetables, and nuts. This means they're key to keeping our food supply diverse and abundant. Without them, our farms would struggle.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What examples of resilience in ecosystems did you learn about? How do these cycles of renewal change the way you see nature around you?

The examples of resilience in ecosystems that I learned about were the lodgepole pine forests regenerating after fires due to specialized serotinous cones and the prairie ecosystems maintaining ecological services despite droughts through their diverse plant species. These cycles of renewal changed the way I see nature around me because they highlight nature's capacity for self-repair and adaptation, demonstrating that disturbances are not always destructive.
