Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.

I can keep my dogs on a leash, clean up their poop, get grass that is resistant to urine, don't leave waste behind, and make sure my pups are vaccinated.
By keeping my pups on a leash it lessens the likelihood of disturbing natural habitats of wild animals. By being vaccinated, there is little risk to spread communicable diseases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
How did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?

I joined a neighborhood group that went around and picked up trash. I haven't seen any other people starting to do the same, but it does make the neighborhood feel better.
I think there are a few reasons why people don't adhere to the Leave No Trace principles. One, a lack of education, people simply don't know the steps they can take other than don't litter. The other is apathy: they don't have faith that recyclables actually get recycled or they don't realize the impact of trash.
