Flora Emma's actions
Climate + Air
Choose Renewable Energy
Renewable energy options are becoming more widespread and accessible. Not only are they good for the planet, they can help save money as well. I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will contact them to advocate for this option in the future.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Action Track: Community
Share My "Why"
I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hours in my community.
Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 2 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Climate + Air
Ride to work
I will use my bicycle to get to places rather than my car or the public transport
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Choose Renewable EnergyIf you are already signed up for your utility's renewable option, what other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage? If your company doesn't offer a renewable option, were they open to your request of this in the future?
Flora Emma Ellis 4/12/2024 8:43 AMI am changing my electricity plan so that I will use electricity when there is less demand and when it's greenest. We were lucky enough to be able to install solar panels at home. Even then, we still do our best to use the least we can from the grid to be as green as possible. What it's surprising is the amount of CO2 we saved and how much a normal household produces. Little changes can make a huge difference, like switching off unnecessary lights. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Flora Emma Ellis 4/08/2024 2:48 AMI am preparing and growing at home various vegetable plants to donate to the local primary school. I am participating to a charity where we will also help planting fruit trees and vegetables in local communal areas so that disadvantaged kids and adults can have access to fresh fruit and vegetables. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Flora Emma Ellis 4/08/2024 2:45 AMI went for a bike ride to town centre with the kids for a total of 80 minutes (there and back). It was awesome, and when I had the opportunity I would have asked the boysto take a moment and look at our wonderful world. The colour of the sky, the gentle breeze, the flower blooming and the first green and healthy leaves on the trees. I asked to keep this in their heart -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Flora Emma Ellis 4/08/2024 2:40 AMOn the weekend I went with my family for a clean up of a local country road. Sadly the bag was nearly full of rubbish, but we are very proud of the work done
